What is acupuncture? Acupuncture has been used for over 2000 years, helping millions world-wide obtain optimal health, balance and well being. Known for its safety and effectiveness with few side effects, acupuncture is used to treat any number of conditions, acute and chronic. Acupuncture is especially useful for correction of imbalances and disharmonies in the energy pathways of the body known as meridians. There are very few health concerns that can’t be explained by the disruption and imbalance of the meridian system.
Does acupuncture hurt? To the contrary. Most experience acupuncture as very relaxing and soothing, the result of achieving a more balanced state. The needles used are hair thin, sterile and never re-used.
What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)? TCM can include acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, Chinese food therapy, Qigong, Tai Chi Chuan and tui na (Chinese massage).
What is Chinese Herbology? Chinese herbology is an integral part of Oriental Medicine, using herbs to re-harmonize imbalances in the body. Chinese herbal therapy is much different than the western medicines and even western herbs that are given. An example here in the west might be to give a drug or herb to stop a cough due to its anti-tussive effect alone. A skilled practitioner of Chinese herbs would determine where the cough is coming from and select an appropriate group of herbs to stop the cough at its source.
Are Chinese herbs safe? In the hands of a skilled practitioner, Chinese herbs are very safe. Find a practitioner that is a graduate of an Oriental Medicine College and passed their National Boards. A Chinese herbal formula is given to re-harmonize imbalances. Therefore, a patient will receive a formula unique to their own conditions with results often being immediate.
